Look out for ostriches, common elands, plain zebras, greater kudu, savanna monitor lizards, and the only remaining roan antelope population in Uganda while visiting Pian Upe. While on a Uganda safari, you may also have the opportunity to see cheetahs only in Pian Upe. Following the game viewing

After the game viewing and, of course, (packed) lunch, leave Pian Upe and travel to Kara-tunga Safari Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5

Hike the Morungole Mountains, including an encounter with the IK community.

Get up early, eat breakfast, and set out to hike Mount Morungole in Karamoja’s northern hills. The higher you climb, the more breathtaking the scenery becomes in the valleys below you and into Kenya’s Eastern Rift Valley and all the way to Southern Sudan. Expect to meet the Ik, Uganda’s smallest tribe, while in Morungole. The Ik have always lived in what is now Kidepo Valley National Park, but they were displaced over 50 years ago and now live on mountain ridges. Visiting the IK provides a rare glimpse into a very unique African tribe. You will then proceed to the booked lodge.

Day 6

Spend the entire day exploring Kidepo, including morning and afternoon game drives.

It is also the area of the park with permanent water sources all year, as well as the location of the majority of the animals. Keep an eye out for large herds of buffalo, zebras, antelope species, and lions. You’ll return to the lodge for lunch before heading out for an afternoon/evening game drive. There are lush Borassus palms, creating the appearance of a desert oasis. Along the way, keep an eye out for ostriches, leopards (which can be difficult to spot), and tortoises.
Return to your lodging for lunch. Later, go to the Karamojong community for a cultural encounter. You will spend a wonderful afternoon (evening) with the Karamojong people, learning about their culture and beliefs. You will retire to your accommodation at the end of the day to enjoy your dinner and overnight rest.
